64-bit Accounting Software for macOS
If your thinking about upgrading or buying new Mac's to run your business, you will need to make sure all apps are 64-bit for macOS Catalina. The Canadian macOS accounting software options are discussed in the following article.
In late 2019, Apple released macOS Catalina (10.15). Of the many notable changes, the biggest one that affects small business is the removal of support for 32-bit apps. What does this mean? Simply put, a 32-bit app will not run on macOS Catalina - only 64-bit apps.
As a Canadian company supporting Mac based business for their accounting software, the question we are most asked is: What accounting software options are available for macOS that are 64-bit?
Well as noted on our site there is two options for Desktop software on macOS: 1) Accountedge (small business) 2) Connected Accounting and ERP (small to mid sized business)
Of our two apps we support, only Connected has made a 64-bit application that supports the new macOS. This version was released in April 2019, well before the deadline required for macOS Catalina. Accountedge does NOT have a 64-bit version and there is no indication of when/if this may come to pass.
At this time, if you are a Mac based business, using the current macOS, the only option we can recommend is Connected Accounting and ERP which is 64-bit and has Retina display support.
